The Hybrid Regional Heritage Workshops for Students

Transform4Europe invites university students to participate in a hybrid event – the Regional Heritage Workshops. These workshops will provide an opportunity to delve into cultural heritage and its management in contemporary Europe, exploring its various dimensions – local, regional, national, and European.

The workshops are designed for MA and PhD students aiming to understand and explore common European heritage. Participants will conduct surveys among their university peers and engage in problem-solving tasks using design thinking methodology. 5 ECTS credits are provided. The event will be conducted in a hybrid format: part of the sessions will be held virtually, and part will take place in Katowice and Cieszyn, Poland. Travel expenses and scholarships for each activity day, including travel days, will be covered for students.

Interested students are invited to register by filling out the application form by June 12.

Key Dates

  • June 17: First virtual lecture.
  • October: Two additional virtual lectures.
  • October 21-25: On-site meetings in Katowice and Cieszyn.
  • October 22-23: Transform4Europe Heritage Conference in Katowice.

Activities and Tasks

  • Participants will conduct a survey on common European heritage among their fellow students.
  • Participants will engage in problem-solving tasks in Cieszyn using design thinking methods.

Practical Experience

  • Participants will visit museums and meet with heritage conservation experts and local heritage creators.
  • The workshops will help understand how cultural heritage is utilized in contemporary regional economies and contributes to local and regional development.

Selection and Participation

  • The institutional coordinators of the VMU alliance will select three students to participate in the workshops.
  • Selected students will be informed on June 13.

  • Kinga Czerwińska – Cultural anthropologist and professor known for her research on folk art and intangible cultural heritage.
  • Jerzy Gorzelik – Art historian specializing in the relations between art, cultural heritage, and group identities.
  • Adam Hajduga – Sociologist and industrial culture heritage enthusiast, currently Deputy Director at the Metallurgy Museum in Chorzów.
  • Leszek Jodliński – Art historian and political scientist with extensive experience in museum management.
  • Grzegorz Kulik – Translator and promoter of the Silesian language, known for his translations and linguistic projects.
  • Grzegorz Studnicki – Ethnologist researching the use of traditions and culture in contemporary local communities.
  • Lubomira Trojan – Cultural anthropologist specializing in social design and cultural heritage preservation.
  • Agata Zygmunt-Ziemianek – Sociologist focusing on social demography, social policy, and higher education didactics.
  • Ewa Wylężek-Targosz – Art historian and literary scholar specializing in visual arts, translation, and film studies.

The Research Council of Lithuania launches a call for Lithuanian and foreign student summer internships

The Research Council of Lithuania (RCL) launches the annual Student Summer Internship Competition and Lithuanian and foreign students are invited to apply for internship places at universities and research institutes. Students from Lithuania and all around the world can choose internship places from the competition – selected places offered by science and study institutions. The internships will take place from July to August, and students will receive a € 2,000 grant (€ 1,000 per month). In addition to grants, the RCL will allocate funds for the implementation of internships. A total of € 750,000 is planned for this program this year.

The Summer Internship Competition for students is the longest- running RCL programme aimed at providing students with the opportunity to conduct scientific research, acquire new knowledge, deepen analytical and scientific skills, develop scientific writing and presentation skills, get acquainted with the Lithuanian scientific community and scientific infrastructure, and also gain professional skills. Since 2005, the RCL has supported around 2,700 students during the summer, with 198 students from Lithuanian and foreign research institutions funded last year. The RCL funds student internships in all fields of science and art: natural, technological, medical and health, agricultural, humanities, social sciences, performing and screen arts, visual arts.

To participate in the summer internship competition organized by the RCL, applicants must submit a CV, a certificate of study results, a cover letter and a choice of up to 2 topics of interest before 29 May 2024.

T4EU Summer School for Early-Stage Researchers

The 14th Lisbon Summer School for the Study of Culture will be the first Transform4Europe Summer School for Early-Stage Researchers. Organised under the theme ‘Culture at War’, the event will take place between 24 and 29 June 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Organised by the Lisbon Consortium of the Faculty of Human Sciences of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the summer school focuses on topics such as culture and conflict; war and the creation of modernity; the cultural construction of terror/terrorism; rules of war and humanitarian law; representations of war; cultural wars and language; dialogue and tolerance; environmental emergency; and war against climate change.

The event is addressed to participants interested in such fields as culture studies, film and the visual arts, literary and translation studies, history, anthropology, media, and psychology.

The registrations for paper submissions are now closed, but students can still register as attendees for the Summer School until 15 June. T4EU partner universities’ students can enjoy a reduced participation fee of €80.

Baltic University Programme (BUP) Science and Sail 2024

The Baltic University Programme (BUP) and Klaipėda University, proudly present BUP Science and Sail 2024, a summer school with the focus on the Baltic Sea Environment.

The summer school will take place between 4-11 August in Klaipėda, Lithuania and the waters of the Baltic Sea. Accepted students will be studying the sensitive Baltic Sea Environment, both on land and at sea with leading experts from across the region.

Parts of the summer school will take place onboard Klaipėda University’s sailing vessel Brabander, sailing the southeastern part of the Baltic Sea, while conducting tests and collecting samples. Participants will also study the unique coastal environment of the Curonian Spit and Nemunas river delta, learning about the impacts of and solutions to climate change, biodiversity loss and the human aspects of the unique Baltic Sea Environment.

This summer school is free of charge and applications are open for students studying at either bachelor or master level at The Baltic University Programme’s participating universities. In total 36 students from BUP participating universities will be selected to take part. Furthermore, we will welcome 3 PhD students. The PhD students will have a unique opportunity to take part in the full program, along with the students, while also practicing their teaching and mentoring skills. The attending PhD student will be supporting students in contextualising the work. We accept students from all kinds of study programs and no pre-knowledge of the Baltic Sea Environment is required.

Perhaps the last one is the focal point.

Therefore, we have convened a panel of VMU alumni who have encountered similar challenges and are enthusiastic about sharing their valuable advice and experiences acquired throughout their careers.

The application for Create Lithuania programme has begun

Please be informed that the selection of participants for the programme Create Lithuania has begun. Launched in 2012, the goal of Create Lithuania programme is to promote Lithuania’s economic transformation and changes in the country. Every year participants from various industries join the programme for one year. During this time, they work in the public sector and develop evidence-based solutions and breakthroughs in various areas, from economy and innovation to industry, STEM, governance and many others.

This year, candidates are encouraged to embrace a new focus: Economic Transformation. We invite motivated, ambitious, talented, and critical individuals who possess the capability and enthusiasm to innovate in finance, technology, industry, artificial intelligence, public management, and other sectors in Lithuania to join the programme.

The selection process will continue until 5 May. There is the possibility to participate in the programme in English.

To be considered for selection, applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Possess a minimum of two years of professional work experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
  • Exhibit analytical skills and the ability to collaborate within a team.

Candidates with project management experience, as well as those with study and/or work experience abroad, will be viewed favorably during the selection process.
